Planter Consulting Group gets its name from the CSS Planter, a confederate ship that slave Robert Smalls commandeered in the Charleston harbor during the Civil War. Smalls and the crew sailed to freedom and turned the boat over to the Union to use in exchange for prize money.

Much like the CSS Planter, Planter Consulting Group aims to be a vessel that minority-owned businesses in the Lowcountry can use to attain economic empowerment via business ownership.
